Te Waitere is located on the southern shores of Kawhia Harbour approximately one and half hours drive south west of Hamilton in the Waikato region.

We must thank the multiple farm and forestry owners for the opportunity to share their amazing landscape, this event could not be possible without your support.

The COURSES

The 'WAITERE'

Challenging in places. Magic views.

Course Details

Distance: 17km
Elevation Gain/Lose: 338m
Age Restrictions: 9 years and over. 9-11 years accompanied by participating adult. 12-16 years with the permission of a guardian.

Course Description

A nice cruisey start from boat club on sealed road before heading up gravel road to farm entry. Nice ride across farm before some climbing at around the 7km mark. May have to dismount a couple of times. Once to the peak of the climb (8.5km) you can spend time looking around the landscape. A few short climbs and downhills then onto the exit downhill with some neat turns. Comfortable sealed road ride back to the club. Boothill (14km) is another good opportunity for a photo opp, then zip down to finish back to the club.

The 'Taumata West'

Epic climbs. Stunning views.

Course Details

Distance: approx 50 km
Age Restrictions: 12 years and over. 12-16 years accompanied by participating adult

Course Description

The 50km ‘Taumata West’ begins following the best parts of the ‘Waitere’ course with both sealed and gravel roads climbing through farmland with stunning north facing views of the Kawhia harbour and Pirongia and Karioi Mountains. Then riding on farmland there is a short jump up onto a ridge which is followed before descending back to sea level where you leave the ‘Waitere’ course. The ride continues with a bit more road work before starting a steady climb up a farm track with the harbour behind you. Again the hilltops give amazing harbour and coastal views. Riding the ridge you leave the views behind you and head through a short section of young plantation forestry onto farm tracks and a gravel road. While heading west Tongariro and Ruapehu Mountains can be see to the south on a good day. Farm tracks wandering up and down offering views towards Te Anga, Marokopa and Mt Taranaki. Having past the halfway point and heading in a more northly direction you follow a mix of mainly farm tracks, with a lovely piece of native bush and some short sections of sealed road. A downhill section through more young plantation forestry followed by some sealed and gravel road sections lead you back to Te Waitere with some of the most stunning harbour views along the way.
